This big, four-masted liner was originally built for the North German Lloyd in 1908 (under the same name).  Lying interned in New York harbor when the First World War erupted, she was seized by the U.S. when the country entered the war against Germany in 1917.   At the end of hostilities, she was completely refurbished and entered service for the United States Line in 1921.
This lovely postcard is in very good condition.
