Chinese Calendar Year of the Horse with filigree insert Proof Silver Coin 2$ Niue 2014
    Description
The 2014 Year of the Horse coin issued by the Pacific island of Niue is dedicated to seventh of all the animals in the Chinese zodiac. Highlighting the powerful galloping horse motif, the coin has been struck in .925 silver and enriched with a petite silver element in the shape of a horse. The worldwide mintage of this unique collectible is limited to 3999 pieces.
The obverse of the coin displays the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II with the outline of two galloping horses in the background. Featured as the centrepiece, there is a silver filigree horse-shaped insert plated with 24-Carat gold. The legends along the rim of the coin include the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin and its issuing country.
A special minting technique of pad printing has been employed to create the reverse design that features a colored image of a galloping horse against the background of its outline. One can see the same cute horse-shaped insert at the bottom of the coin. The Chinese believe that because horses are born to race or travel, all Horse people need freedom and usually leave home young. Possessing boundless energy and ambition, a Horse's inner self always remains powerfully rebellious. The reverse also includes the inscription of the name of the coin and the Chinese symbol standing for
    horse
. The Year of the Horse coin is presented within an attractive horseshoe-shaped case making it a beautiful gift for someone born in 2014 or any other Horse year!
