    Description

German officer's lion-headed sabre with steel sheath
German officer's lion-headed sabre with steel sheath
A German military dress saber, also known as a lion’s head saber due to the particular shape of its knob.
Lion-headed military sabers used to be part of the attire of Prussian and German officers. They existed in many variations and were still used by the highest ranks of the German army in both World Wars.
Although this beautiful sword at a good price is not an individual replica of an original historical piece, it is based on the design of the ceremonial sabers that German officers wore in their dress uniforms in World War II.
The en45 spring steel blade, thin and slightly curved, is not sharp and has a diameter of approx. 54 cm longer fuller. The blunt edge is approximately 1 mm thick and the full blade nipple is bolted to the knob.
The handle consists of a handle with knob and a combination of fenders and knuckles. The knob is shaped like a lion’s head with two ruby eyes embedded, and the back strap and neck of the handle feature intricate floral designs. The wittyly ornate knuckle arch coming out of the lion’s mouth flows seamlessly into an equally ornate shear with rounded, elaborately decorated spears and a downward-curved lion head terminal. The core of the handle is made of wood and wrapped in leather and brass wire. The bow, lion head cap with back strap, neck and spear protector are all made of brass.
The military dress sword is delivered with a nickel-plated steel sheath to match two carrying bands, articulated suspension rings and a metal shoe.
This German saber with lion’s head knob is not a battle-ready weapon, but a very decorative collector’s item. And in addition to its quality as a collectible, it also adapts perfectly as an accessory, among others. for theatrical performances.
