    Description

    Hanwei
    Viking Seax
    Saxon Scramasax (SH1075)
    17.75” Overall, 11.5” Blade
    1566 High Carbon Spring Steel
Premium Leather Scabbard - Horizontal Carry
    Historically Accurate
The Scramasax, also referred to as
scramaseax or scramsax (literally meaning ‘wounding-knife’), sax
    or
    seax,
was carried by the Saxons and the Vikings between the 4th and 10th centuries, came in a wide range of sizes and was used both as a tool and a weapon.
Carried horizontally, at the back of the belt, the scramasax provided the spearman with both a close-quarters weapon and a tool and utensil in camp. Our SH1075 Scramasax, with its foot-long blade, would provide both slashing and thrusting power in battle while handling heavy-duty chores around the home and camp. The Scramasax is equipped with a premium leather horizontal-carry sheath.
Amongst the shape and construction of seaxes there is a great deal of variation. The most frequent characteristics are:
A tang in the centerline of the blade, inserted into an organic hilt of wood or horn.
    A large single-edged blade.
The blade is worn horizontally inside a scabbard or sheath attached to the belt, with the edge of the blade upwards.

    Comments
: These are beautifully made with solid construction (note thickness of blade at guard is over 1/4” for instance) and historically accurate. Also the only one on the market I know of that comes with sheath for horizontal carry. My only criticism is that I’d prefer the blade come sharper! ...it is especially important when buying Paul Chen Hanwei swords online to avoid shopping based on price alone, as many of the sellers who stock them at close to wholesale prices are selling seconds or defective items that should have been inspected and sent back to the factory as per Hanwei’s usual policy with their wholesalers.
