Let me start by saying that I know nothing about swords. I’m calling this a Moorish sword because it looks like one, to me. The sword is, overall, 33” in length, the blade is 22.5” and the handle is 10.5”. It is 1.5” wide and .25” thick. I don’t have any history on this. I live in Humboldt County, California and my girlfriend and I went down to a place called Moonstone Beach, next to the small community of Trinidad. There is a cave there that goes back into the hillside, it’s not big, it only about 60’ in length. We went in to have a drink, out of the sun and behind a rock we saw what looked like a piece of gold, in the sand. This sword is what we pulled out. I have no idea where it came from, we talked to the beach caretaker and no one had reported losing their sword. I can’t imagine that it was left there by explorers or pirates; there must be hundreds of people a year who have visited that cave. Trinidad was the first harbor to be explored in Northern California but it taxes the imagination to believe that no one ever found it. I made a mistake because it was all tarnished and I cleaned it up; apparently I wasn’t supposed to do that. This sword is definitely handmade and is all one piece of metal. I Goggled Maker’s Mark and I found several the kind of looked like the one on the Guard. The scabbard that you see with it is just something I made to keep it from cutting anything; all we found was the sword. It has been sitting around the house for a couple of years now and I know that I’m not going to do anything with it so here it is. If you can figure out its origin then you’re doing better than me. If you need more pictures or information please let me know.
